Who Wants to Buy a Castle?

Nowadays, castles are not a hot ticket item for sale. When visiting Europe, people are bound to see castles on their way down the Rhine or when traveling through Scotland. Many tourists will even venture into a castle or palace during their time in Europe. Some of the most famous castles to visit are Edinburgh Castle, Neuschwanstein Castle or Alnwick Castle. Those castles are nice to look at, but they are owned by the state.

Have you ever thought about owning your own castle, though? There are some relative cheap castles if you are in the market for one.

For starters, there is a French chateau for sale for $1,425,000. Built in the 13th century, it is located in Condom. The castle sits on a five acre plot, which is surrounded by the lovely countryside. Historically, it was used as a military defense tower. Currently, it is a great place to host guests and friend. There are four floors—one floor sadly needs updating—however, there are three reception rooms—including a salon with a fireplace, a large kitchen with an Aga, and access to a terrace. The lovely castle has five bedrooms and four bathrooms. For your guests, there is a lovely guest cottage that was recently renovated. On hot days, there is a salt water swimming pool and a nice garage to house your cars.

If looking for something a little cheaper, there is a beautiful castle in Tuscany for $1,128,600. Built in the 17th century, this castle comes with six acres of land of beautiful countryside and a private swimming pool. The three levels of this castle was renovated in 2006. The new meets the old with Tuscan style chestnut beams and the classic terracotta styles. The entrance is to die for with an arched stone door that will lead guesses to gape. This castle is perfect for housing your guests close but not too close in the cottage.

Perhaps, I went in the opposite direction. If looking for something a bit more expensive, then this castle in Perugia, Umbria, is for you. The castle costs $4,560,000. Do you have enemies? Then this castle is for you as well. The watch tower is located on the hill of the castle. With magnificent countryside and distant hills, you can see anyone coming from a mile away. Within the countryside, you will privately own your own olive grove. The castle has been torn down and rebuilt many times, with part of the castle based from the second century B.C., when the Romans and Carthaginians took hold. However, most of the castle comes from the 11th century. The castle is technically smaller with its two walls built entirely out of sandstone.

The final castle for sale is on a private island, which might make you feel like you are living in a fairytale. The cost of the whole island is $1,938,000. On Lake Como, it has a jetty and dock but no bridge. The island is a piece of history, dating back to 1723. Historically, the island was used as a defense fort before becoming a fisherman’s house. The island is 361 feet long and 98 feet wide with 36 feet separating the island from shore. The castle itself as a tree-lined garden and two towers. Including the towers, there is an attic, balconies, storage rooms and courtyard. However, the castle is in terrible need of renovation. However, if you are looking for a getaway, this castle might just be your best bet.

Castles can be bought if you are rich looking to impress, or if you can get some friends to pool some money together. Castles may take a lot of money to sustain, but you will have major bragging rights. These four castles are just within reach if you know who you are. It may not be Neuschwanstein Castle, but you can be your own Disney princess in one of these.
